Matt

Carl is approachable, compassionate, and knowledgeable in his teachings on depression. Often Christian culture avoids talking about mental health issues, but Carl does an outstanding job discussing how Jesus truly is a wonderful counselor. I really appreciate the nuance and the insight that Carl provides in his teaching. The passage in particular that he covers I found to be very helpful. I had never read this passage with that particular interpretation, but now that I have heard Carl teach on it, it makes perfect sense. I would highly recommend this course not just for people who struggle with depression, but for those who know someone who is struggling with depression, and need help and are relating to them through scripture.

John

Carl does a wonderful job of pointing people to Jesus as well as sharing his own story of traveling from hopelessness to hope. This lesson is not heavy handed. I am reminded of Jesus invitation to everyone who is weary or burdened. He tells us to take his yoke and learn from him because his yoke is easy and his burden is light. Carl communicates in a way that points all of us toward the light burden of Jesus.

Jason

Carl is not only a licensed counselor, but he is also someone who has struggled with depression as well. Hearing his story and purpose helps me know he is someone that can bring care and patience to the process of healing. This course is helpful in hear his own journey but then also educational as he shares about depression and ways to heal.

Breaking the Stigma

I wrote my very first book on my experience with depression. What a journey it was as I had to look through old journals and almost relieve some of my worst times. I truly hope this book can be an encouragement to anyone who reads it as I give details of my struggle through first-hand accounts and poems.

This book would be ideal for:

  • An individual struggling with depression

  • A group study.

  • Pastors or leaders trying to understand depression better.

Kyle

This book is a testament to how God's grace can get you through, regardless of where you may find yourself or any challenges that you may be experiencing. I appreciated how the author didn't shy away from any vulnerabilities and gave an honest telling of his journey to Christ. An easy read, would definitely recommend.

Gavin

Amazing read! Carl tells his story of being a follower of Christ and experiencing depression. This is a great read for a Christian experiencing depression or who is close to someone experiencing depression. I love his honesty and transparency about the fears & doubts of being a Christian especially while also simultaneously experiencing mental health challenges.

Melissa

A raw and honest walk through the author’s experience with deep depression. Told through a lens of Christian faith, this book will be a helpful resource to those who are struggling with their mental health to see the light and hold on to their faith through their darkest days.
